Launching of Office and IT Skills Programme for Persons with Disabilities

The MEF in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Council and the Training and Employment of Disabled Persons Board (TEDPB) has launched an Office and IT Skills Programme for Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday 17th August 2011 in the Conference room of the Mauritius Employers’ Federation. 

Hon. Mrs. S. Bappoo, G.O.S.K., Minister of Social Security, National Solidarity and Reform Institutions, Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare, Mrs. Amreeta Nivault and Mr. Chetanand Bundhoo, respectively Chairperson and General Manager of TEDPB, Mr. Anwar Joonas, President of the MEF CSR Fund and Mr. Raj Auckloo, Director, Human Resource Development Council attended the function.

The MEF has been involved with the training of Persons with Disabilities since 1998.  More activities are now being set up through the MEF CSR Fund, set up in March 2010.  In this context, the Office and IT Skills programme has been launched to promote the access of Persons with Disabilities to employment opportunities in the secretarial and clerical fields.

The programme designed for 20 participants will start on the 22nd August 2011 and will comprise 170 hours in-class training.  Among the topics to be covered are: Basic Office and IT skills, Communication and Secretarial skills and Basic English and French. Upon completion of the programme, all 20 participants will benefit from an internship in BPO companies, with the support of the Outsourcing and Telecommunications Association of Mauritius.
