The Employment Relations Bill and the Employment Rights Bill have been passed in the National Assembly on Friday 22 August 2008. After proclamation, the Employment Relations Bill will replace the Industrial Relations Act and will provide the new framework for industrial relations and the Employment Rights Bill will replace the Labour Act and thus govern employment relationships in enterprises.
The new legislations will change drastically our industrial relations landscape and they lay much emphasis on the Collective Bargaining process for the determination of terms and conditions of employment.
In this context the MEF organised a Briefing Session on the New Labour Legislations on Wednesday 3 September. This session was attended by some 200 MEF members.
The session was facilitated by Mr Edley Armoogum Assistant Director from Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Mr Pradeep Dursun, IR, HR Adviser &Mr Laval Wong Moi Sang, IR,OSH & Environmental Adviserat the MEF.
The MEF will hold additional sessions with members in due course and a briefing session has been scheduled for MSPA on the 9 September at 14:00 at the seat of the MEF.
