CSR

Corporate Social Responsibility

The MEF is committed to promoting the social role of enterprises and to enhance their contribution, through CSR, to the alleviation of poverty and the social and environmental development of the country. The Federation is involved in many activities regarding CSR, namely:

Policy/ Advocacy

The MEF submitted proposals to the Government, in the context of Budget 2011, advocating for a CSR framework to help private sector to complement Government’s efforts in addressing important social challenges.

Representation

Through structured forms of dialogue with the public authorities, the MEF strives to represent its Members and submit views and proposals regarding CSR to the authorities on their behalf.  The Federation is represented on the National CSR Committee which oversees the practical implementation of the law.  It is also a member of the JEC Working Group on CSR.

Information and Guidance

Through surveys, information notes, brochures and circular letters, members are informed and guided on different aspects of the CSR legislations, activities and publications.

Research

In the field of research, studies are often undertaken on different aspects of CSR to inform on the CSR practices of the Mauritian enterprises.  A survey on Practical Implementation of CSR under the New Legislation was conducted to determine the management constraints in implementing CSR under the new law and to identify capacity building need in enterprises in Mauritius.
