As the national employers’ organisation, the MEF is the vital voice of all enterprises, small, medium and large. The MEF can only emerge as a strong spokesman of employers if it is representative of all categories of enterprises. Entrepreneurship being the very soul of economic development, SMEs are essential to any country’s success. They do, however, need a lot more to get started and make a success of themselves.
SERVICES
The MEF has been a comprehensive training package on Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Development which is broken down into three components, namely:
The MEF also set up the Employment Opportunities Investment Fund in 1984 with the following objectives:
-
To inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship and develop an enterprise culture
-
To provide training to small scale entrepreneurs
-
To help small scale entrepreneurs to carry out feasibility studies
-
To help small scale entrepreneurs to manage their businesses soundly through advisory services
Besides the MEF has introduced a Mentoring Project for SMEs. It allows an SME to benefit from the knowledge and experience of business people they would normally not have access to. The MEF acts as the coordinator and has set up a team of mentors comprising enterprises and individuals in different areas of business.
